Marc Cucurella was on song for Chelsea in their 3-1 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League. The Spanish defender’s proactive nature helped him score a stunning header to put his side in control of the result.
After the end of the match, he also managed to catch up with popular UK rapper Central Cee, who is an ardent Chelsea fan. Moreover, Cee (actual name Oakley Neil Caesar-Su) is also good buddies with Cole Palmer. The two featured together in Chelsea’s ‘Wrap Up Warm’ campaign last year and even posed in an NSFW picture where Palmer was boldly showing his middle finger to everyone.
Cee managed to get down to the Stamford Bridge pitch after the match ended to have a chat with Palmer and even ended up having a hilarious interaction with Cucurella. The Spanish defender, who has been settled in the UK since 2021 (after joining Brighton & Hove Albion from Getafe), seems to be a bit of an enthusiast of the UK rap scene and Central Cee in particular.
The full-back was full of energy after his inspired performance and even decided to show off his own rapping skills in front of Cee. He did a hilarious rendition of a rap but managed to do a pretty good job despite his Spanish accent and even though he forgot some bits of the song too.
Cucurella went off on rapping a short verse that goes like:
‘We can go band for band (f*** that, we can go M for M)
Quarter mil’ for the Maybach truck’
Palmer definitely saw the funny part of Cucurella trying to rap like Central Cee, as he could be seen bursting into laughter on the sidelines. The Englishman is himself a pretty big fan of the UK rap scene and was even featured in a rap video way before he gained his fame at Chelsea.
The song that Cucurella is trying his best to rap along with here is the song ‘Band4Band, a song from Central Cee that also featured American rapper Lil Baby. The song was launched in May, 2024 and went onto peak at no.1 in the UK Hip-Hop/R&B as well as no.2 on the US Rhythmic charts. It even peaked at no.3 in the Australian Hip Hop/R&B charts!
The slick tune and groovy rap flows in the song helped it gain a lot of popularity. Band4Band had a platinum certification in the USA with over 1,00,000 unit sales. It managed 160,000 sales and received a 2x Platinum certification in Canada. Band4Band has had over 384 million streams on Spotify, including over 639,000 daily streams.
That means the song’s Spotify streams have itself estimated to have earned Cee and Lil Baby over £1 million. The song’s music video on YouTube has also acquired over 188 million views and counting. The verse that Cucurella tried to rap and could not properly finish from the song goes like this:
‘We can go band for band (f***that, we can go M for M)
Quarter mil’ for the Maybach truck (double R with the factory rims)
I got the 90, the Urus, the Virgil, the Brabus, I’m really a threat
It’s got to the point that I don’t even care, I got jewels in the safe that I don’t even wear’
To his credit, Cucurella at least tried his best at nailing this difficult rap verse at a time when he was full of adrenaline. Even though it showed off his goofy side, it only shows how Central Cee’s popularity keeps rising within the Chelsea squad thanks to his association with Palmer and the London giants.
