The battle in football is always won or lost in the midfield and FPL is no exception. In Fantasy Premier League 2024-25, the most preferred as well as the most viable formation seems — 3-4-3 or 3-5-2.
Hence, you need a strong midfield composed of FPL heroes who can make or break the difference for you in the mini-leagues or on the global leaderboard. As time ticks away for FPL managers with the deadline for gameweek 23 attempting to clear the ball away, we present before you a carefully curated list of midfield maestros who have the potential to disrupt the FPL point tables.
Md. Salah (£13.7m)
Salah is defying age, defying time, while defining sheer class. It seems almost crazy to even think about an FPL midfield without him. By the way, we came up with a midfield without Salah, Palmer or Mbeumo in FPL.
In all likelihood, by the end of Fantasy Premier League 2024-25, the Egyptian magician will break almost all existing records in FPL. With 214pts and 49pts clear at the top, he is currently holding the no.1 spot for the golden boot (18 strikes) as well as the most assists (13 strikes) by any player.
Though Salah has blanked in the last two successive gameweeks, he is a must-own now with an xG of 0.8 per 90’ and an xGI of 1.06 per 90’. Liverpool has four games in the next three gamesweeks with three out of them being plum fixtures.
Cole Palmer (£11.4m)
Palmer had his breakout season in 2023-24, providing a huge value for money to his owners in FPL. This time too, he has become a template pick along with Salah.
Don’t go by his blank against Wolves at home last week. He went on to play the match despite being doubtful due to an injury. The England international has fourteen goals and seven assists under his name, with an xGI of 0.83 per 90’. He has also collected 29 bonus points from 22 matches.
Chelsea has one of the most favourable fixtures at the moment and Cole Palmer appears a must-have for the long-term.
Bryan Mbeumo (£7.8m)
Though the Brentford general has blanked in the previous two matches, he is more than value for money. Having scored 140pts with 13 goals and 3 assists, Mbeumo is another template pick before GW23.
He plays out of position and offers a dangerous goal threat — the xGI reads 0.54 per 90’. Brentford has a kind run of fixtures till GW28 and considering the attacking flair Frank’s men have, Mbeumo will be a solid option even beyond that.
Justin Kluivert (£5.6m)
Welcome to the new star in the FPL sky, Justin Kluivert — the rightful heir of the modern-day football legend, Patrick Kluivert. It all took a 22-pt haul for Justin Kluivert to come out of his father’s shadows and announce himself in the FPL as well as in the PL.
Kluivert didn’t only score his second hattrick of the season last week but also rose to the fourth spot in the midfielder segment of highest point scorers in fantasy football 2024-25. With 10 goals and three assists at an xG of 0.52 per 90’ and an xGI of 0.61 per 90’, Kluivert looks all-set for an exciting journey in a Bournemouth shirt for the next few gameweeks.
Iraola’s men will embark on a kind run of fixtures from GW25, which stretches right till the fag end of the season. Meanwhile, Kluivert still remains a huge differential enabler with only 6% ownership in FPL.
Phil Foden (£9.3m)
Foden is back. The England international has scored 34pts in the last two and 48pts in the last four, the most by any player in this time period. Therefore, there are enough reasons to consider Phil Foden now.
Despite having a tough run of games till GW29, Foden urges you to prioritise form over fixtures. He has missed five games in this campaign and still managed to score six goals and register three assists, while maintaining an xGI of 0.66 per 90’.
Moreover, City seems to be back on track as Guardiola’s men have won three out of the last four in the league with Foden emerging as the mainstay of their revamped attacking third. Therefore, giving an instant FPL contract to Foden doesn’t look like a bad idea, as he remains a great differential too — an ownership of just 7.6% at the time of writing.
